About the lab
- latent/ˈleɪt(ə)nt/adj.
- Present, but not yet visible.
- conjecture/kənˈdʒɛktʃə/n.
- A guess you are willing to test.
This lab is mostly the second, in pursuit of the first.
Latent Conjecture is Mark Stent’s experimentation lab: a place to build things to find out how they work, and to write them up properly afterwards.
Most experiments are about language models: how to measure them fairly, what they can hold in their heads, and what happens when you let them do real work with a person approving each step. Others are statistics, from causal inference to auditing whether a random process is really random.
How the lab runs
Every project keeps its own code repository. The ones you can use in a browser run either on GitHub Pages or in their own container on the lab’s server, each at its own address. This site is the index: it describes each experiment, shows what it looks like, and links you to the code, the paper or the running app.
Everything here is a personal project, built in spare hours because the question would not leave me alone.
